How to Bet on Totals
You can bet on the total points, runs or goals that will be scored in hundreds of different games each day at leading online betting sites. It is one of the most popular ways to bet on a game, because there is no need to predict who will win.
Totals Betting 101
The betting sites will set a total points, runs or goals line for every game. For example, it could be 229.5 points for a game between the LA Clippers and the Houston Rockets.
You can then predict whether the total points scored by both of the teams will go over that line or remain under it at the end of the game.
If you think there will be 230 points or more, bet on over. If you think the total will not exceed 229 points, bet on under. The odds on over and under are normally -110.
Alternative Totals Betting
You will also find alternative total points lines to bet on. You can move the line to make it easier, which results in a less attractive payout, or you can make it harder to gain a larger potential payout.
For example, if the official line is 229.5, you could bet on over 230.5 points at -120 or over 228.5 points at +100.
You can also bet on individual team totals, player totals, and totals on quarters, halves and periods.
